Guidelines for Grad Program of Study in CAD/CAM

General:

A total of 30 semester hours is required for an M.S. degree. Of these, 6 hours must be for research or thesis, 6 hours for math, and the rest for general course work. The design group suggest that no more than 12 hours be in the area of specialization (major area) and 6 hours in electives. The courses n the major area must be selected such as to support the student's research area. The choice of courses is made jointly by the student and his/her advisor. The Program of Study must be approved by the student's thesis committee and the department graduate committee.

M.S. in Design:

Requires a thesis and 24 hours of course work. Several areas of emphasis are possible: robotics, composite structural design, CAD/CAM, robotics/kinematices and Manufacturing Processes.

MSE in Design:

This is a terminal professional degree. Non-thesis option. Requires 30 hours of course work and a Comprehensive Exam or a Design Project.

Ph.D. in Design:

36 hours of graduate level coursework beyond BS (credit given for MS coursework). Courses must include 9 hours of Math, 18 hours major, 9 hours of electives.

Qualifying Criteria:

Must complete within first year three core classes with a GPA of 3.25. Core classes are marked by an asterisk in the Table below. Typical set of courses for CAD/CAM is listed below:
